“Our highest assurance of the goodness of Providence,” Holmes speculated, “seems to me to rest in the flowers.  All other things, our desires, our food, are really necessary for our existence in the first instance.   But this rose is an extra.  Its smell and its colour are an embellishment of life, not a condition of it.  It is only goodness which gives extras, and so I say again that we have much to hope for from the flowers.”  Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes

As a Sherlock Holmes -mystery detective – plot aficionado, this statement from Sir Conan Doyle does speak of hope and of the seeker – to see in that which goes beyond (as the embellishment in life,) and of that which isn’t delimited by a specific set of conditions.

So, Wheel within a Wheel 117 is my visual Ode To the Rose!

Wheel within a Wheel 117, Acrylic, 40 in x 40 in, 2018

I’m working on a personally more challenging artwork right now.  This painting is one that I began while moving and packing.  It was a messy period.  It’s that period typically referred to as limbo – not here but not there either.  And, the dilemma is that the other destination isn’t that clear either.

It’s the natural trajectory that unfolds when the unknown starts becoming known…  Hence, I am looking in the mirror of the past experience and appreciating readily my work today.

Once completed, I’ll share more updates in my next post.
