Recently, I traveled to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks on my way to Tahoe. The sheer magnificence of the trees is unequalled. It transported me to the idea of pre-historic times and the dimensions prevalent amongst dinosaurs (though to be accurate the trees came later.)

It is a world marvel. Of course, tourists were everywhere, especially at our last stop in Kings Canyon. I literally ran away from the crowd.
Thinking back on it now, I just did not want to contend (for the “nth time”) with the throngs of people in order to get the “perfect” photo of the majestic tree.
I did finally capture the General Grant Tree from the parking lot, at a spot where there was space to look at it more calmly with a more reflective and “respectful” focus. I could finally enjoy it. Someone else beside me had discovered the advantage of this spot as well, so we shared the space and nodded in understanding.

Why do I mention the Sequoias (aside from the fact that it was my latest travel stop)? Both the enormous size and the long time span they encompass, serve as a nice introduction to my series of large-scale watercolor paintings. These artworks took dedicated long periods of time to both design and paint. The designs have a complexity that the larger scale facilitates.
Here is the group of larger watercolors — around 48 inches to 72 inches in either length or width.
